Winter Skincare, Straight From the Meadow
The meadow botanicals that help soothe, nourish and protect your skin through the colder months.
There is a lot to love about winter. Frosty mornings, woolly jumpers, fires, long walks and coming home to somewhere warm.
Our skin, however, isn't always quite so enthusiastic.
Cold air, wind and the constant move between chilly weather and centrally heated rooms can leave skin feeling dry, tight, sensitive and generally in need of a little extra care.
This is the time of year when we reach for some of the most comforting plants in our meadow. Botanicals traditionally used to soothe and care for skin, combined with nourishing plant oils that help replenish the moisture our skin can struggle to hold onto through winter.
Here are three of our favourites.
Wild Rose – to hydrate and comfort
There is a reason rose has been treasured in skincare for centuries.
Our Wild Rose hydrosol is made from freshly picked petals, distilled by us in small batches to create a beautifully fragrant floral water that helps hydrate, cool and comfort dry or sensitive skin.
It's at the heart of our Wild Rose Moisturiser, alongside hyaluronic acid, meadow-grown mallow, chickweed, plantain and self-heal and nourishing cold-pressed botanical oils.
We also infuse rose petals into the oils used in our Meadow Face Oil, making Wild Rose one of our absolute winter skincare heroes.

Chamomile – to calm
Winter skin can sometimes feel like it needs soothing more than anything else.
Chamomile is renowned for its calming properties, making it particularly lovely for dry, sensitive or irritated-feeling skin.
We distil our meadow-grown Chamomile to produce the floral water used in our creamy Meadow MakeUp Remover, where it works alongside nourishing cold-pressed honesty oil to gently cleanse without leaving skin feeling stripped.
You'll also find Chamomile infused into our Meadow Lip Balm, helping care for lips exposed to winter weather.

Yarrow – to soothe and protect
Yarrow has been used as a skin herb for centuries and is particularly valuable when skin is feeling weather-beaten.
Traditionally valued for its soothing, astringent and skin-conditioning properties, we slowly infuse meadow-grown Yarrow into nourishing honesty oil for our Meadow Lip Balm.
Combined with Chamomile, Plantain, Chickweed and locally collected beeswax, it creates a protective little pot that's particularly useful for lips – and other small patches of dry skin – when winter weather arrives.

Your Winter Meadow Skincare Routine
Winter isn't necessarily the time to completely change your skincare routine. Often, it's simply about cleansing more gently and adding back a little more moisture and protection.

Step 1 – Cleanse without stripping
Begin with our Meadow MakeUp Remover.
Its creamy combination of meadow-grown Wild Carrot and Chamomile floral waters with cold-pressed UK-grown honesty oil gently removes make-up and daily grime while helping retain the skin's natural oil balance.
Massage a small amount into your skin before removing with a warm, clean face cloth. If you're wearing heavier make-up, simply repeat.
Step 2 – Hydrate & soothe
Next, apply our Wild Rose Moisturiser.
Small-batch distilled rose water helps hydrate and comfort the skin, while hyaluronic acid draws in moisture and meadow-grown botanicals including mallow, chickweed, plantain and self-heal help nourish and soothe.
It's light enough to absorb beautifully, but gives winter skin that extra layer of moisture it often craves.
Step 3 – Lock in nourishment
Finish with a few drops of our Meadow Face Oil.
Made from a carefully balanced selection of UK-grown and pressed botanical oils, it's naturally rich in Omegas 3, 6 and 9 and infused for around four weeks with hand-picked Rose, Daisy, Plantain, Calendula and Red Clover from the meadow.
Warm 3–6 drops between your palms, then gently press the oil onto your face and neck.
Think of this as the final nourishing layer of your winter routine.
Step 4 – Don't forget your lips
Lips have very little natural defence against cold, dry weather, so keep a pot of Meadow Lip Balm close by.
We make ours from UK-grown honesty oil, locally collected beeswax and a host of meadow botanicals including Chamomile, Plantain, Chickweed and Yarrow.
Apply whenever your lips need it – or use a little on particularly dry or weather-beaten patches of skin.
Winter in the Meadow
There is something rather lovely about using meadow-grown skincare in the depths of winter.
Outside, the meadow may look quiet. Most of the flowers have disappeared, the grasses have died back and the insects that filled it through summer are tucked away until spring.
But the plants we carefully harvested during the warmer months are still here in our workshop.
Rose petals have been distilled into floral waters. Chamomile has been captured in our hydrosols and infusions. Yarrow is slowly infused into botanical oils. And the plants we didn't harvest have been left behind in the meadow – providing seeds, stems, shelter and food for wildlife through winter.
This is what we mean when we talk about skincare from a wildflower meadow.
Founded by botanist Dr Sally Gouldstone, Seilich was created to show that natural products can be made differently. Rather than simply taking ingredients from nature, we're trying to build a system in which making those products helps create and maintain habitat too.
We grow our ingredients amongst diverse communities of wildflowers, harvest only a small proportion of what grows, and leave the rest for the ecosystem that produced it.
So even in the middle of winter, opening a bottle of Seilich brings a little piece of the summer meadow back to life.
Restoring You. Restoring Nature.
