More info and how to use

Each summer we head up to the highlands to collect armfuls of beautifully aromatic Bog Myrtle where it grows in abundance on wet marshy ground. This amazing plant is known for its ability to treat a spectrum of skin problems such as psoriasis, eczema, and dry and itchy skin, as well as to heal spots and blemishes and even to delay skin-ageing. By combining this wonder plant with meadow grown self heal, chickweed and plantain, not to mention a hefty dose of brightening vitamin C, resurfacing B3 and deeply hydrating hyaluronic acid. It's the perfect antidote to ageing, hormonal, dehydrated or dull skin.

Phytoglycogen: a sugar derivative that is naturally found in the skin which has been shown to help replenish ceramides (the glue that holds our cells together) essential to maintaining the skin’s moisture barrier as well as preventing skin aging.

Sodium ascorbyl phosphate (Vitamin C), a powerful antioxidant known to brighten dull skin, smooth wrinkles, visibly firm the skin and reduce discolourations (e.g. age spots).

Frequently Asked Questions

1/ What are the main benefits of Nature’s Secret Serum? Nature’s Secret Serum is our more concentrated facial treatment, designed to hydrate and help skin look brighter, smoother and more refreshed. It combines Scottish botanicals including bog myrtle, self-heal, chickweed and plantain with recognised skincare ingredients including niacinamide, vitamin C, hyaluronic acid and phytoglycogen. The result is a very lightweight serum that adds an extra layer of hydration and nourishment without feeling heavy on the skin.

2/ What skin type is Nature’s Secret Serum suitable for? It can be used across a wide range of skin types, but is particularly lovely for normal, dry, mature, dehydrated or dull-looking skin. It is a good choice when moisturiser alone doesn’t feel quite enough, or when you want to introduce a more concentrated hydrating and brightening step into your routine.

3/ How do I use Nature’s Secret Serum? Apply a small amount to clean skin after cleansing and toning or using Meadow Face Mist. Gently massage it into the face and neck and allow it to absorb before applying your moisturiser. You can then finish with a few drops of Meadow Face Oil if your skin needs additional nourishment. It can be used morning or evening.

4/ What is bog myrtle and why is it used in Nature’s Secret Serum? Bog myrtle is a wonderfully aromatic native shrub found in wet, peaty landscapes across Scotland and other parts of northern Europe. It may be unfamiliar as a skincare ingredient, but it has a long history of traditional use and is rich in naturally occurring botanical compounds. We carefully harvest bog myrtle in Scotland and distil it to create one of the botanical waters at the heart of Nature’s Secret Serum. Alongside meadow-grown wild carrot, self-heal, chickweed and plantain, it gives the serum a distinctly Scottish botanical character.

5/ Are the botanicals in Nature’s Secret Serum actually grown or harvested by Seilich? Yes! We grow and hand-harvest botanicals including wild carrot, self-heal, chickweed and plantain from the Seilich meadow, while bog myrtle is carefully gathered from the wilds of Scotland. We then process the plants ourselves in small batches to create the botanical waters and extracts used in the serum. This means we have a direct connection with many of the plants in the bottle, from harvest through to finished product.

6/ What is the benefit of Seilich growing its own skincare botanicals? Growing many of our own botanicals means we know exactly where they have come from, how they have been grown and when they were harvested. We can pick plants at the right stage, process them in small batches and turn them into floral waters and extracts ourselves, rather than relying solely on anonymous, ready-made botanical ingredients. Just as importantly, our meadow is managed as wildlife habitat first, so the plants in our skincare are grown as part of a living, diverse ecosystem rather than as a conventional crop.
