Refillable Natural Skincare: How Our Refill Scheme Works

Refillable Natural Skincare: How Our Refill Scheme Works

Beautiful natural skincare often arrives in beautiful glass jars, which then sit empty in a cupboard because it feels wrong to throw them away. We think the jar is too good for that. Here is how our refill scheme works, and why we designed it the way we did.

Keep the jar, order the refill

Our moisturisers, cleansers and lotions come in robust glass jars and bottles designed to be used again and again. When yours runs low, simply order a refill instead of a new jar. The refill arrives in a compostable pouch from our partners at OnRepeat. You decant it into your jar, and the pouch goes in the compost.

Why compostable pouches

We researched our options carefully, with help from Bright Green Business, before choosing this scheme. Returnable bottle schemes sound lovely, but shipping heavy glass both ways roughly doubles the transport emissions. A compostable pouch travels one way only, fits through your letterbox and cuts the greenhouse gas emissions of the refill by almost half compared with sending containers back and forth.

Glass that lasts

We choose thick-walled glass that shields the products from UV light, extending their shelf life. That matters because natural ingredients, unlike synthetic ones, tend to have a shorter shelf life. A jar that protects its contents and can be refilled for years is the most sustainable packaging we can offer.

Refills across the range

Refills are available across our skincare and tea ranges. Look for the refill option on each product page in the Scottish Skincare collection, and for refill pouches alongside our herbal teas. You can read more, including how to recycle or compost everything we send you, on our Refills and Recycling page.
